Cybersecurity Defense Engineer Program_

The Cybersecurity Defense Engineer Internship at Almomani Cyber Solutions – Amman, Jordan is designed to prepare interns to administer and operate the security controls that protect the organization.

The internship focuses on hands-on administration and execution rather than security analysis or investigation. Interns will gain practical experience working with firewalls, Web Application Firewalls (WAF), secure email gateways, proxies, and URL filtering controls.

Interns will also learn how to execute mitigation requests received from the Security Operations Center (SOC), including blocking IP addresses, domains, URLs, hashes, and senders, while verifying that the requested security controls have been applied successfully.

Learning Objectives:

• Understand the cybersecurity defense stack and what each security control protects.
• Administer firewall policies, including rules, objects, NAT, VPN basics, and rule cleanup.
• Manage WAF policies and rule sets.
• Handle WAF false positives and detection versus blocking modes.
• Operate secure email gateways.
• Manage anti-spam and anti-phishing policies.
• Handle quarantine and allow/block lists.
• Manage attachment and URL protection.
• Manage proxies and URL filtering.
• Configure categories and user/group policies.
• Work with SSL inspection and exceptions.
• Execute SOC mitigation requests accurately and efficiently.
• Block IP addresses, domains, URLs, hashes, and senders and verify that the block is effective.
• Apply proper change management procedures.
• Validate requests, assess impact, document changes, and perform rollback when required.
• Maintain security platform health.
• Perform backups, configuration exports, signature updates, and HA checks.
• Communicate clearly with SOC teams and asset owners.
• Maintain proper change and handover documentation.

By the end of the internship, interns will have practical experience administering cybersecurity defense controls and executing security mitigation actions in a structured and controlled environment.
